The MDT Approach | Using Movement as Medicine

Kyle Merriam, DPT

When it comes to spine and other joint injuries, traditional approaches can leave patients wanting more and feeling unsatisfied. Many health care dollars are spent bouncing from one provider to another, wasting precious time, money and energy to eventually be told they need a surgery or medicines that don’t solve their problem.

Developed by New Zealand physiotherapist Robin McKenzie, the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment puts the patient first, specifically what gets the patient the most rapid relief of pain and symptoms.

In our musculoskeletal movement system, the right movements can restore joint and muscle balance and eliminate postural tension and pain. An MDT certified therapist has advanced training in how to assess and develop the right movement prescription for each patient, unique to them and tested with them directly to verify results and pain relief before the patient walks out the door.

Wouldn’t it be nice to know something works that will reduce or eliminate your pain before you leave the office?

If you’re interested in learning more about the MDT approach, ask to speak to one of our MDT certified clinicians, and keep moving!
